Evolve discusses the transformation of an individual, over time, after tragedy, trauma, or a major life event. As one’s perspective shifts, the synapses in the brain start to create new pathways for thought-allowing for growth, understanding, and healing. The neon sculpture is both autobiographical and an homage to the millions of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors around the world. Killian’s own understanding of domestic violence expanded during her tenure as an employee and volunteer with multiple humanitarian organizations, speaking with many fighting for their lives.
While featured in a silent auction at the 2022 BrightFire Music & Arts Festival in Huntersville, NC, the proceeds collected from the sale of Evolve went directly to Safe Alliance, a nonprofit group “providing hope and healing to those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault” in the greater Charlotte Metropolitan area.
