Digging My Own Grave

Guilt. We are born into it, bred around it, and bound to it. It penetrates our pores, saturates the earth,
washes over our skin
as it clings to the hurt.
But that pain she once saw as grit
dis i n t e g r a t e s
all around. It crystalizes then
shatters,
barely making a sound.
The echo of abuse vibrates underground, transforming into a resurrection—a life where one was not found.
Her breath begins as the muscles awake, climbing then stumbling out of the grave. The strength that was taken, returns yet again, but this time-
it won’t be stolen, never fooled by a wolf in sheepskin.
